My nephew turned two this weekend. The party was a blast, and he loved my present. I found him a talking broom. He always wants to play with brooms and now he has one that’s the right size for him. With all the aunts, uncles, and grandparent that boy has on both sides of the family, he cleaned up on his birthday.

He still hasn’t mastered the art of eating cake, but he made less of a mess than he did last year. It was a busy day, but a lot of fun.

I finally managed to see Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End at the discount theater. Sadly, I must confess that I haven’t put much of a dent into my summer movie list. Anyway, At World’s End was definitely a trilogy ender. Over the top and trying to do everything. I don’t think the filmmakers took themselves too seriously thought. At least—with a wedding in the middle of a pirate battle—I hope they didn’t take themselves too seriously. Even though it wasn’t deep and meaningful, it was fun and well worth a discount admission.

But then, how can you go wrong with Geoffrey Rush?

Still, I may have to watch the movie again just to make sure all of the double-crosses made sense. Sadly, I think Barbossa was one of the few main characters that played with all of his cards on the table. He hated the East India Trading Company and wasn’t interested in making a bargain with them.

Apartment life is fuuuun. Especially when other people’s toilets back up into your bath tub. Sleeping with that smell is relaxing in a way you cannot understand until you’ve tried it. And cleaning up after the plumbers have done their job...a real treat. Oh well, it was an interesting new experience.
