Merry Christmas! I hope all of you readers
have a good holiday. I’ve already done my Christmas Eve family
thing. It was good to see everyone again and hear all of the stories
of the past year. It’s great when you have a little one in the
family. Since my sister’s family is going to visit her husband’s
family tomorrow, we gave the little guy his presents today. He had
a blast; it was so cool. As for me, a friend gave me a replica of the
sword from the Acathla episode of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer.
So I made out pretty good this year.

I had the chance to see Charlotte’s Web this weekend.
Ah, childhood memories. Though, I guess it does sound lame that I’m
admitting that I saw this movie here. Still, who wouldn’t like
a movie with Steve Buscemi, Thomas Haden Church, and John Cleese? You
know, it’s funny though. This year I saw Underworld Evolution, Silent
Hill, and X-Men 3; with each movie I walked out of the
theater feeling either irritated or angry, but when I went to see Cars and Charlotte’s
Web I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I guess I simply appreciate quality
no matter where it turns up.

I’m about thirty years behind, but
I watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest today. That movie
reminded me of Dead Poets Society. They both were stories
about a free thinker in a conformist setting, in both movies someone
kills themselves because they’re told something they love is
wrong, another character suffers because of the suicide, and both movies
end with someone throwing off the shackles of conformity.

Happy Thanksgiving. I hope all of you
readers had a good one. I know I did. Time spent with friends really
makes you thankful to be alive. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving is over
and I have to start worrying about Christmas shopping. Ugh!
When did I get so busy? I only
bought four comics last weekend and I’ve had time to read two of
them. I’m still irritated with Marvel for buying out the Dabel
Brothers, and just when I started cutting back on Marvel. Oh well,
it’s not like I’ll ever completely kick the Marvel habit.
On that note, I don’t get what’s so great about Joss
Whedon’s run on Astonishing X-Men. I mean, I love
the shows Angel and Firefly, but I’ve bought
nearly his entire run on Astonishing and he just hasn’t
given me that same magic. Don’t get me wrong, the humor’s
there, and the shot of Scott (no pun intended) at the end of Astonishing
X-Men #17 was cool, but the story doesn’t have heart like
Whedon’s other works.

A friend just loaned me the CD Masters
of Chant by Gregorian. A chanting version of Nothing Else
Matters? Why am I just now hearing about this?
