part 3: Night Visitation

I saw them almost immediately, for this time they were burning the houses.
There were only four of them, but with the damaged they managed to cause in such little time, four was enough. |

I caught the first one completely unaware.
His cry seemed to be more in surprise than in pain. I felt I had a little
more control over my attacks than I had the night before. I struck the
first raider squarely in the back, but with control over
the fire, he was not harmed as badly as the raiders of yester-night. |
The attack probably wasn’t enough
to stop him, but it would take him some time before he was ready to fight
again. Still, I had three others to deal with. |
