part 1: The King's Court
August 6, 2004
The king would not be betrayed by his emotions at such a time. He had long regretted allowing commoners to serve as knights, a decision he made in a time when the Karkaa invaded the land. |
Someone as charismatic as Zeroun would
be most dangerous if he was allowed to maneuver himself into a position
that held real authority. The king did not doubt that Zeroun was making
his grasp for power at that very moment. Obviously the knight would either
make himself the head of this ‘senate of commoners,’ or even
worse, he would simply need to allow the people give him the position.
Once he had the senate, Zeroun could easily oppose the king. It was a
rather bold gamble by the knight. |
|
Yet the king did not prattle away as the other members of his court. He simply leaned back in his chair and said, “And how do you propose to make such changes, Zeroun?” |
