The brown-haired knight did not bother to admire the shimmering splendor of the halls or the vivid tapestries that lined their walls as he made his way through the palace of Tarlea. Sir Rinan was late for the council, but it was nothing that the others wouldn’t expect.
In fact, he could see that no one was surprised when he entered the meeting hall. Rinan’s lateness was notorious, so the court was forced to be understanding, even during such a meeting. All of the heads of the kingdom of Tarlea were there: the lords Zigo, Benat, Nastri, Majeed, and Cestmir. Also in attendance were the nine Knights of Tarlea, to which both Rinan and Lord Benat belonged. Of course, his majesty the king presided over the meeting. |

“Forgive my tardiness, your majesty,” Rinan said, “I was—” “Save whatever excuse you have brought us this time, Sir Rinan,” the king said. “Take your place so that we can begin an already delayed meeting.” Rinan said nothing. He simply bowed and took his seat. |
“Now, Sir Zeroun, I believe this council was
your request,” the
king said. “Perhaps you could shed light as to why we are here.” |
