“Tell the king at once,” one of the guards ordered another. “Zeroun has escaped.”



“I don’t believe this,” Eustathios said as the guard left on his errand. He took a few steps into the dungeon hall. “Zeroun firmly believed in our justice system. Why would he run from it?”

“Begging your pardon, sir,” the guard said, “but it would seem that Zeroun played us all for fools.”
